Thank you Mike
& David!
The workshop was great and the
music was even better! These guys are musically connected
on another level, a couple of down-stroking machines. If
you get the chance to spend time with them don't hesitate....GO!
Hearing some of Will Kimble's instruments was a huge treat as
well. We hope they come back and see us soon....we miss you already
but your inspiration will be with us! Thank you to
everyone who attended for your support. Special thanks to
Will Kimble for providing the great instruments (wow....I want
that Jethro mandolin, the mandola and mando-cello were great
too!), Jim Richter (webmaster, chauffeur, and promoter), Cary
Allen Fields (of the "Fields of Bluegrass" radio show, Friday at
9pm on 88.7 FM-WICR), David McCarty (mandolinist and mandolin
columnist and writer), Alan Richmond (Director of the Dayton
Mandolin Orchestra) and the entire Mandolin Society of Central
Indiana (a great bunch of mandolinists). Photos
from the concert and workshop will be posted here soon so stop
back and check them out! Here's a link to
Mike Compton's web journal
about his day here in Indianapolis.

Frank’s Violins and The
Mandolin Society of Central Indiana present:
Mike Compton &
David Long
Mandolin Workshop
Sunday, December 11th,
2005

John Hartford once said...
"Mike Compton knows more about Bill Monroe
style mandolin than the Father of Bluegrass himself!"
This is a rare opportunity to meet and learn from the
legendary, virtuoso, mandolin duo of
Mike
Compton and
David Long
in an intimate and interactive workshop. They will also be
performing a concert that evening at Meridian Music. I met
Mike and David at David "Dawg" Grisman's
Mandolin Symposium in 2004 where they were both instructors.
I was struck by their musicianship and dedication to the music
they play. This is your chance to hear some of the best
traditional and old time bluegrass music you’ll ever hear in
your lifetime! Mike recently received a Grammy Award for
playing the mandolin on two award winning projects, "Oh Brother
Where Art Thou?", Album of the Year and Best Compilation
Soundtrack Album, and "Down From the Mountain", Best Traditional
Folk Album. He has also toured and played with John
Hartford, David Grier, the Nashville Bluegrass Band and is
currently a featured artist on David Grisman's newest landmark
mandolin release "Tone
Poets". KQED television recently
featured
David Grisman with Mike Compton and David Long (video link)
playing with the "Dawg". Make sure you click on all these
links above to find out more. Call us today to reserve
your spot for an awesome mandolin workshop with two of the
world's finest mandolinists!
